What Insurance “Is”.
A long time ago, my first mentor in the insurance business told me that people don’t buy a drill because they want a drill. They buy a drill because they need a hole. That always stuck with me because business isn’t about the products we sell. It’s about why we sell them. What problems do we solve. What are the intentions behind why we sell them.
Over the summer, I took some time, in a coordinated effort with our intern, to really take a deep dive into what insurance meant to our agency, to our employees, to our customers, and to our community. We embarked to discover what insurance “is” to us.
While to many, that may seem like a pretty simple and obvious question, we wanted to peel back that onion because I knew that when we did, we would discover a whole lot more than just what it seemed like on the surface.
Here is what we discovered that insurance means to Catalyst Insurance Group.
1. Insurance is Fun, not boring.
2. Insurance is Relational, not transactional.
3. Insurance is Noble, not a scam.
4. Insurance is Impactful, not just a commodity
I’ll dive into each of these in the coming weeks, but let me share with you what this process did for us. It helped us refine our purpose. It helped us define our customer and how we want to serve them by fine tuning our customer experience. It helped us better mold our company’s culture. Ultimately it helped shape how we operate internally, in the community, in the industry, and with our clients.
Have you ever taken a deeper dive into what it is your really do? If you haven’t, you’d be surprised at what you find.
